WHAT IS ALL THE HUBBUB ABOUT PFOA/PFOS CONTAMINATION?

WHAT ARE PFOA AND PFOS?

Between 1940 and 2002, Perfluoroctane Sulfonate (PFOS) and Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA) were in household cleaning products, carpets, rugs, upholstered furniture, non-stick cookware, leather products, firefighting foam, production of stain, grease, soil, and water fighting products.

HOW DO THEY CONTAMINATE PUBLIC WATER SYSTEMS (PWS)s?

PWS Contamination occurs when sewage treatment plants, industrial sites, and landfills discharge these chemicals into the ground and surrounding surface waters.

HEALTH EFFECTS AND DEPTH OF EXPOSURE

Although discontinued, the chemicals remain indefinitely in the environment and body and are known to lead to reproductive issues, liver disease, and cancer. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) states PFOA/PFOS exposure is widespread throughout the United States.
